Pippa Mann returning to Indy 500 in 2017

March 29, 2017 //  by Horsepower & Heels

Pippa Mann returning to Indy 500Indycar driver Pippa Mann is planning her return to Dale Coyne Racing for a fifth consecutive year to pilot the team’s third entry in the 101st annual Indianapolis 500. Mann will be back behind the wheel of the #63 Dale Coyne Racing Honda as she looks to make her sixth start at the famed 2.5-mile superspeedway.

The British driver will once again be paired with engineer Rob Ridgely. Ridgely was Pippa’s engineer when she scored her best IndyCar Series finish in 2015 (13th), as well as her best Indy 500 result (18th) last year.

“I’m very happy to be rejoining Dale Coyne Racing for my fifth consecutive year with the team at the 101st Indy 500,” expressed Pippa. “Dale has invested heavily in the team over the winter, and it’s an exciting time to be part of his organization. I’m looking forward to working with the same familiar faces from my 2016 campaign, like my race engineer Rob Ridgely, as well as working with the new members of the team, including my new teammates Sebastien (Bourdais) and Ed (Jones). I’m thrilled to be getting back on the race track this May for my sixth Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”

Also returning for a fourth consecutive year, is the Susan G. Komen® cause.  Pippa will continue to raise awareness for the ‘Get Involved Campaign’ as well as working with Auction Cause, a premier cause marketing agency, that will run a charity auction on eBay for the cause.  The campaign will launch May 1 and close the week following the Indy 500. The funds raised will be used to support Komen’s global breast cancer research, and community based programs throughout the U.S.

“I’m also excited about the link up with Auction Cause and eBay for Charity this May,” added Pippa. “They have so much experience running online campaigns, I feel like it’s a huge step for me, and for the Get Involved Campaign to partner with them. This new format has allowed me to reach out to more drivers, get them involved with more signed items, and I’m hoping we’re able to reach more race fans, and raise even more money for Susan G. Komen than we have ever done before.”

In the past two years, the campaign has raised over $135, 000. Items available in the 2017 auction will include 1:18 die-casts and artwork signed by various drivers, Pippa’s race worn, pink helmet and firesuit, a karting night at Speedway Indoor Karting, as well as the popular ‘Turn the cockpit pink’ option where names of people are placed in the cockpit to honor the memories of loved ones lost, or those who are fighting or who have fought cancer.

“It’s always a pleasure to have Pippa on board for the Indy 500 and to help promote the Get Involved Campaign, raising funds for Susan G. Komen,” shared Team Owner Dale Coyne. “Pippa works hard every year to put together this program and to race in the Indy 500. With her perseverance and enthusiasm for our sport, it’s only fitting that we continue this relationship that started five years ago.”

People who wish to be notified via email once the auction goes live can sign up at the following link: http://www.auctioncause.com/cf/komen-get-involved/signup.htm

On track action for this year’s Indy 500 gets underway Monday, May 15 with practice. The 101st Indianapolis 500 will take place on Sunday, May 28, 2017.

Pippa Mann partners with OrthoIndy

February 7, 2017 //  by Horsepower & Heels

Pippa Mann Partners with OrthoIndyIndycar driver Pippa Mann partners with OrthoIndy

Pippa Mann is excited to announce a new partnership with Indianapolis orthopedic care provider OrthoIndy.

“As a former patient of OrthoIndy, I was thrilled with the idea of partnering with them,” said Pippa. “OrthoIndy is the place the pro-athletes trust. Whatever sport we play, when we have broken bones, or orthopedic issues, getting them resolved not only so we can live our lives comfortably, but so we can perform again at the highest levels of our abilities after surgery or treatment is exceptionally important to us. The OrthoIndy staff are not only the best in the business in terms of clinical care, but after treating and work with so many pro-athletes, they understand the psychology of not only wanting to get better, but wanting to be able to return to competition as quickly as possible too.”

Founded over 50 years ago, OrthoIndy is one of the most highly respected orthopedic practices in the Midwest. With over 70 physicians providing care to central Indiana residents from more than 10 convenient locations, OrthoIndy provides leading-edge bone, joint, spine and muscle care. OrthoIndy physicians also provide care to the Indiana Pacers, Indiana Fever, Indianapolis Indians and Dance Kaleidoscope, as well as local colleges and high schools.

Owned and operated by OrthoIndy physicians, OrthoIndy Hospital is central Indiana’s first specialty hospital with a direct focus on bone, joint, spine and muscle care and the most technologically advanced facility available for orthopedics in the Midwest. As a physician-owned hospital model, OrthoIndy Hospital’s top priorities are patient safety, satisfaction and outcomes.

Quality patient care serves as the foundation for the physician-owned and operated hospital, which is evident in the ratings received from Press Ganey Associates, Inc. From 2013 to 2016 OrthoIndy Hospital was named a Guardian of Excellence Award winner for consistently achieving the 95th percentile of performance in patient satisfaction. From 2009 to 2012, OrthoIndy Hospital was named the Summit Award Winner for sustaining the highest level of customer satisfaction for three or more consecutive years.

OrthoIndy has provided orthopedic care for the racing community for years. Statistics show that women are the primary healthcare decision makers in a household; therefore, it was important to OrthoIndy to align with a female athlete in the Indianapolis community. Pippa Mann is a strong female athlete in a male-dominated profession, who has proved you can do anything you set your mind to.

“The physicians, nurses and employees of OrthoIndy are excited to partner with Pippa,” said Jane Keller, CEO of OrthoIndy. “Pippa is passionate about giving back to the Indianapolis community we serve. We are proud to partner with her.”

Career best finish for Pippa Mann

May 31, 2016 //  by Horsepower & Heels

Career best finish for Pippa Mann at Indy 500Sunday’s 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 resulted in a career best finish for Pippa Mann.    The lone female driver to compete in this year’s Indy 500, Mann showed one of the strongest runs of her career at the famed event, running as high as eighth, and ultimately finishing 18th.

Mann qualified for the 33 car field  in the No. 63 Honda with Dale Coyne Racing, her third year under the banner of Susan G Komen.  Her Indianapolis 500 campaign promoted breast cancer awareness and included a crowdfunding effort with a goal of raising $100,000 for the cause.

Starting the race from the 25th grid position, Pippa Mann avoided several on-track incidents with the help of her spotter team, delivering a clean and consistent performance. With each pit stop, Mann praised the performance of her car to the Dale Coyne Racing crew, repeatedly asking that little on the car be changed.

As the race went on, we were able really keep improving the car at the stops,” said Mann. “As the track got hotter and more difficult to drive for the other people out there, our car kept getting better and better. That’s a great thing to have happen during a race like this.”

A full course caution came out with less than 40 laps to go, and the Dale Coyne Racing crew brought Pippa into pit lane under yellow for a full service stop. She restarted in 16th, and with 21 laps to go, she cracked her way into the top 15. The rest of the field showed their hand, running low on fuel, with cars pitting one by one. As laps wound down and tension increased, Mann cleanly climbed her way to 8th position, hoping for a late race caution to allow for fuel conservation. With four laps to go, the crew of the No. 63 Susan G. Komen Honda called Pippa in for a splash of fuel, rejoining in 18th position.

The 18th place finish marks an Indianapolis 500 career best finish for Pippa Mann, boosted by running in eighth position in the final laps. Although that late race caution the team so eagerly hoped for never came, Mann expressed satisfaction in her performance.

At the end there, we were really hoping for that lucky yellow, and we’d have come away with an incredible result,” remarked Mann. “I still have to be happy we had such a strong run here, especially seeing how hard the guys worked all day and all month long.”

At the time of the checker flag, Mann and Susan G. Komen’s crowdfunding efforts raised $68,500, almost $10,000 more than the year before. The fundraiser can be viewed on the official Get Involved Campaign on Indiegogo.

“I want to thank BREVAGenplus for believing in me and this car. I’m grateful they came on board to partner with us to make this year’s Indianapolis 500 possible. It’s really great to be able to represent a brand that has so many ties in the breast cancer space and whose mission is so similar to that of ours: to end breast cancer forever.”

A new partner for Pippa Man in fight against Breast Cancer

Driving a pink and white race car adorned with the Susan G. Komen livery for the past two Indianapolis 500 races, Pippa has raised awareness and funding to support the cause through her IndyCar activities.  Pippa is an ambassador for women’s health with several organizations and is active both nationally and locally in her support of Komen.

I am thrilled to be able to represent another group that is committed to helping end breast cancer by partnering with Genetic Technologies,” said Pippa.  “It is fantastic to be able to represent such a game-changing product in the women’s health space.  I am looking forward to helping raise the profile of BREVAGenplus® through the exposure that comes with IndyCar and the Indianapolis 500.”

By promoting BREVAGenplus® , Pippa hopes to promote and bring awareness to this fantastic risk assessment test and the benefits of early-detection, giving women over the age of 35 the power of informed decisions towards preventative care and treatment plans.

The associate sponsorship agreement between Pippa and Genetic Technologies will consist of apparel representation, participation at BREVAGenplus® oriented events and speaking engagements, social media, print and video campaigns, and related sales support activities.  Pippa plans to use this new partnership in her efforts at the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 29, 2016.

Meet INDYCAR Driver Mianna Wick

January 12, 2016 //  by Kelly Morris

Mianna WickShe started out in karts, moved from Formula Ford to Formula Mazda, and now is taking on INDYCAR.

19 year old Mianna Wick, is just as busy off-track as she is on.  A college degree in small business and majoring in marketing, she also is a part time owner with her parents business of LBF Motorsports known as Living by Faith Motorsports.

To have the skill to drive an INDYCAR is somewhat rare, let alone drive it well. It takes so much mental discipline, as well as physical, and it takes a sense of just being able to feel the car and understand it’s language which can’t always be taught. It is incredibly hard, but incredibly rewarding. You have to stay focused not only when your driving, but when your home working out, pursuing potential sponsors, or connecting with fans.”

Mianna Wick – Love For Racing

Mianna Wick Indycar At just 6 years old, Mianna and her family moved many times, far away from her hometown. They struggled at finding family activities they could really get involved with. One day, Mianna’s father pitched a great idea that they would put together a family kart with his mechanic skills. Once they began playing around with it, they decided they needed faster karts. They began to pave themselves a small track, eventually used for LBF Motorsports rentals. Mianna started to become addicted to the thought of racing,  spending more time in the seat. Her family saw how much she loved it, that they began taking her to the local track.

My current team Loophole Racing, picked me up and started training me in a FF, FM and now just moved me to an INDYCAR. Driving and INDYCAR is the most peaceful and amazing feel one can get from an activity. The very first time I drove an INDYCAR the only way I could describe how it felt to others, was that it felt like I was home.”

Being a Woman in Motorsports

Mianna Wick at work on IndycarBeing around the guys, especially in Motorsports can prove to be challenging for a young lady. Some men have a hard time with women climbing the seat to compete against them, some are pretty comfortable with the idea.  When asked, “How do the men treat you on and off the track?” Mianna stated, “This is a tough subject simply because it’s all about perspective. It’s one of those situations that I believe you can choose to look at the glass half full, or half empty. Racing is very much a male-dominated sport. But being a woman of motorsports is an honor and is worth withstanding the uphills! If it was easy, we’d all be doing it.“

Women, and people for that matter, need to be encouraged. Because I am a woman in racing, it points a lot of the eyes on me. Everyone is watching to see how I handle myself, how I handle the critics, the young children, the fame, it’s what happens when somebody makes a choice to take a stand in what they believe. I want women to be able to look at me when they do, and become encouraged and self confident, to feel that they can believe in what they love too, to feel the drive to be everything Christ has created them to be… to give them hope. Women want to watch and see that they can change lives too, and they do.”

Mianna Wick

I saw a quote a while back that says good friends are like aerodynamics, you can’t always see them, but you know they are always there. The support of my friends and family is endless, and I don’t think anyone, even myself, truly understands what they sacrifice for me to succeed in racing. And for that, I will be forever grateful!”

With the many other accomplishments Mianna has made over the years, she is ready to create many more in the future. Mianna has been shown continued support from her friends and family. “Being so dedicated to a sport so demanding comes at a high cost for me. One that requires not a LOT of extra time.” Mianna said.    The price? – Not being able to have a normal relationship due with her friends and family as she would like.    Though she may not get to spend much time hanging out with them, they do respect her for what she loves.

Details of the Force-Rahal Wedding plans were kept tight-lipped, but many expected it to follow shortly after the conclusion of the NHRA racing season.    As expected, the nuptials took place just days after Courtney finished her 2015 Mello Yello NHRA Drag Racing season in 11th place for the Funny Car division.

Courtney Force's Bridesmaids
Sisters Ashley and Brittany and Adria were among Courtney’s bridesmaid court.

Graham proposed to Courtney Thanksgiving weekend in 2014 during a beautiful evening gondola ride in Venice, Italy.  The pair met in 2013 during the NHRA races outside Chicago, and a whirlwind romance ensued.   Rahal, who is based in Indianapolis, logged many frequent flier miles between his home and Courtney’s  California residence.    The pair would meet between their busy racing schedules, texting and skyping when they couldn’t be together.
